Content First design approach

'Roundup' is the collection of key stuff we've either been reading, discussing or working on during the month at Avenue.

For us, we like to make each site as unique as the business we’re building it for. This allows us to design a website around the client's content and needs, making it work for them and avoiding a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach.

You should always follow a "Content first" approach to website design, as this allows the design of the site to be fully focused on communicating your point of difference.

It's this aspect (among other things) that makes purchased web templates so easily fail, as they force you to fit your content into it's very generic, broad design - often resulting in compromises in how you wish to communicate your message and present your brand.

A custom approach will design the site around your content.

Secondly, and just as importantly, purchased web themes are often poorly coded or full of bloat which slows your site down, which has the potential to heavily impact user experience.

To learn more about the importance of website page load speed and its impact on user experience, check out our blog post "A slow website = lost customers".
